Documentary Filmmaker Who Gained Fame With 2004 Film About Fast Food Dies At 53

Filmmaker's Cause of Death Has Not Been Determined

Morgan Spurlock, the muckraking documentary filmmaker who chronicled a 30-day period when he ate nothing but McDonald's food for his 2004 film "Super Size Me," died Friday in New York City, according to his publicist. He was 53.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, his publicist said.

"Morgan Spurlock was a gifted filmmaker and provocateur whose work challenged the status quo and sparked important conversations about public health, consumerism, and the food industry," Spurlock's production company, Warrior Poets, said in a statement.
